Nerd Fashion Meets Technology

Technology is an edgy and futuristic word, but for people who live in the Bay Area, it is just a normal job description. YouTube, Facebook, Google, Apple and so many other technology companies are all funded from the Bay Area. Software engineer and computer programmer are two of the main job in the Bay Area. People who work these sorts of jobs are often called “Nerd”. This is because they only do everything about computer and nothing else. As technology is growing faster and faster, fashion industry welcomes the joint of technology. Are “Nerds” really that nerdy? Four people who work for technology companies and live in the Bay Area were interviewed by Five magazine. Their thoughts will surprise you.

Five: How do you like working in the Bay Area?

Josh Kang: I like it because the Bay Area is considered as the most advanced place. I feel proud of myself.

F: Are you a nerd?

JK: I will call myself an interesting nerd. Computers are not the only thing of my life. I often go out for sports, travelling, exploring the city and try new things. I am also a cellist.

F: Do you care about fashion?

JK: I don’t really like dressing up, especially in California, which is a place that everybody wears T-shirts and jeans everyday. But I do like beautiful suits. My favorite menswear brand is Ermenegildo Zegna.

F: Do you think fashion and technology have any connection?

JK: I do believe so. The Apple watch is a very good example. Samsung also has a smart watch which is very similar as the Apple watch. I think fashion and technology will have more and more connection in the future.

F: Will you buy products like the Apple watch?

JK: Hmm not now at least. As an employee of Samsung, I feel the Samsung smart watch is good enough.

F: How do you like working in the the Bay Area?

JL: I like the Bay Area because I grew up here. My family is all from here so I feel really comfortable. I also love the perfect weather in the Bay Area. Also my major was computer science and design, the Bay Area is the best place for me to work.

F: Are you a nerd?

JL: You can call me a nerd but I won’t call myself a nerd because except working time I almost don’t touch my laptop. I love hiking with my friends once a week. I also like wine tasting. My friends and me love exploring good wine bars all around the world.

F: Do you care about fashion?

JL: Honestly, for me there is not much chance to wear trendy or fashionable clothes now. While working I normally just wear suits but I do like high quality suits. I like to buy tailored suits.

F: Do you think fashion and technology have any connection?

JL: Yes, I think so. Google used to have Google glasses which was a nice try to combine fashion and technology.

F: Will you buy products like the Google glasses?

JL: I will. I like living around technology. It is easy and kind of fashionable.

HL: I enjoy it very much. People here are friendly and smart. I like talking to people in the Bay Area and living in the perfect weather.

F: Are you a nerd?

HL: I think I am totally a nerd, but I kind like it. People define nerd as a not good word but I feel nerd is actually pretty popular in the Bay area. Because of people who likes me, we are hard working, you can use Facebook to share happiness with friends or use the advanced smart phone to take a selfie.

F: Do you care about fashion?

HL: I don’t care any fashion. I grew up in California, nobody cares fashion here.

F: Do you think fashion and technology have any connection?

HL: Though I don’t care about fashion, I do think technology is now helping fashion to create amazing things. I am an articles editor so I get to read a lot of articles including fashion. There are actually a lot of fashion designers already used 3D printer to make clothes. It is very advanced.

F: Will you buy any fashion products related to technology ?

HL: As long as it’s good, of course I will buy. Honestly, I am a big fan of the Apple watch, I will order it soon.

F: How do you like working in the Bay Area?

AT: I just moved here from the East Coast. I definitely love the weather in California. Besides the weather, the technology atmosphere is very intense, when media reports some kind of new technology products are created, they are most likely from the Bay Area. I am pretty proud of it.

F: Are you a nerd?

AT: I don’t like being called a nerd because it sounds like a werdo. But in another case I like being called a nerd because it sounds like smart. I am Gemini, so I guess I have a little bit alternating personality.

F: Do you care about fashion?

AT: I like fashion very much. I read many fashion magazines every month. But for working in front of the computer all day long I would rather wear some comfortable things like T-shirts and jeans. At weekends, sometimes I wear a shirt with designing details and fit pants for having brunch with my friends. For night life I always wear good quality and fit suits.

F: Do you think fashion and technology have any connection?

AT: I think they have a lot of connections. The Apple watch just launched. Futuristic wearable technology will be the main trend of fashion in the future I believe. People are lazy, need more easy things to use.

F: Will you buy the products like the Apple watch?

AT: I will definitely buy but as an employee of Apple, we can only buy Apple watch after one month of the launching day. That’s because we want clients to have them first. If there is any other fashion products related to technology I will be interested.
